Goodbye, HSJI. Hello, The Hawk Eye

Leaving Indiana University this past summer meant one thing and one thing only—it was time for a change. As soon as I arrived home from HSJI in July, I contacted my newspaper adviser in a flurry of excitement. We discussed several of the new aspects of journalism that I had encountered within my editorial and opinion section of the camp. She was thrilled. I felt as though everything I had learned would make a huge difference for our paper, The Hawk Eye.

Our editor-in-chief attended a journalism camp over the summer as well. If we utilized each of our experiences to enhance the class, my adviser said our paper would be receiving the "facelift" it so desperately needed. Now, as we begin the process for the publication of our first edition, I see the paper shaping up to be stronger than it has been in the past. The articles assigned for this month seem to cover more controversial topics than in years past and the layout is appearing clean-cut and precise.

I suppose I may attribute many of the improvements we are making to our excellent adviser and staff. Yet, somehow, every aspect of our publication reminds me of this lecture or that small-group session at HSJI. Go figure.
